Ballard Loft Story
Ballard Loft was built in 2007 and opened for business at the beginning of 2008. Before the space was ever a Loft, it housed a machine shop. The location of Ballard Loft and its space have contributed much to the overall look of the venue. The large garage door along with the front patio is remnant of the machine shop, and the large jib (crane) hanging from the center of the restaurant was a machine crane used to hoist heavy equipment and parts. All of the railings inside and out were fabricated by the previous tenant (Kughler Co. and MK Metal Fab). Not only did the previous occupants of the space play a roll to the overall look of Ballard Loft, but its location within Ballard does as well. Ballard itself is located on Salmon Bay, which has contributed to the rich history of logging mills and maritime industry that helped fuel the local economy. To emphasize these historical contributions to its South Ballard location, The Loft uses natural cut woods to accent many areas of the restaurant, such as the bar shelves, eating bar and trim. Located at the South end of Ballard Ave, Ballard Loft is a neighbor with many steel and industrial Ballard restaurants and businesses. The Loft has also incorporated these neighborhood influences in finishes such as the lighting and decor; as well as in the custom steel work for the railings and bronze faced bar. Ballard Loft values the importance of being a part of the community and strives be a great neighborhood hangout that feels as if it has been a part of Ballard for ages.At Ballard Loft there is a strong sense of community. It is locally owned in Ballard, an active participant in the Ballard community, and the operators are always around.
